It warms the cockles of your heart! It is also a fairly straight-forward tarot card to interpret too as it is about love and bonding, of either new romance of a deepening of existing connections. If you are unsure of someone's feelings and this card comes up, be unsure no more!

Very often, I see trust in this card too and it can indicate that you can put your faith in someone and know that they won't hurt you. It was an absolute pleasure to talk to such a kind and open soul, it really was.

The reason that I enjoyed it so much is because she was so willing to take every opportunity that the cards were offering her and to apply their wisdom as much as she could. This may sound obvious but sometimes it can be hard to be that open-minded, particularly when you feel like the tarot is criticising you! But, often without telling me what the details were (which is perfect), she would acknowledge what the cards were showing her and got busy thinking of the changes she could make.

For this beautiful lady, it happened to be about money. But this approach can apply to any tarot reading at all - it's about about stretching yourself, allowing the tarot to guide you towards what you are capable of doing. This will take knowing yourself well or having the courage to start this journey. But remember, you always have somewhere to turn if you wobble from time to time, the tarot will help you get back on course. And also, the tarot would not recommend you do something that was not truly right for you.

This is what my lady this morning was so open to. I thought her very wise and brave!

The meaning of each tarot card - The ace of cups

The ace of cups is an absolutely lovely card and the meaning of this card is almost always pretty pure in my experience. It's a card of inspiration and of abundance, never ending possibilities and also for some, fertility. So whatever you are focused on, when you see this card there are going to be some pretty good outcomes!

It's worth bearing in mind that it's a card of emotions and so that a positive frame of mind is always a good starting point. So reading of the day it is :)

The lady I read for this morning had met someone recently, spoken to him a few times and decided that she really liked him. She felt that he might be the one for her. And being the soppy romantic that I am I thought, "hooray"! The cards were very positive around this man and I think there is a going to be something really good between them. So what could possibly be the problem, you ask?

The problem really came about in the questions that the querant started to ask me and the expectations that seemed to rise within her throughout the reading. She was so excited about what was showing to be happening that it seemed to unlock many of her unspoken dreams and desires. Nothing wrong with that. But it did quickly become obvious that she craved this man being the answer to her prayers and her dreams and this can obviously lead to disappointment - which was my major concern. He seemed a good man, a sensitive man, a caring man. But can he be her version of perfection? No.

Wishful thinking is such a double edged issue. It's good to have something to hope for, it gives you your spark and keeps you motivated when life is hard. It would be a terrible world if we all lost this ability. But it should never get in the way of being realistic. And actually, sometimes (in ways we don't always realise) reality is good enough!

The meaning of each tarot card - The Queen of Wands

The Queen of Wands is a very noble, powerful figure but one who appreciates what's truly important in life. There is a wonderful energy of people around her - friends or family. So when you see this card, it's important to consider who you have around you and to try to build connections or work on strengthening them. It may even be a kick up the backside to get you making new friends if this would help your current situation!

Also consider communication and whether you are talking enough about your true feelings. The Queen of Wands is confident in how she deals with those around her and does not let fear get in the way of saying what's what.

The meaning of each tarot card - The Knight of Wands

Be prepared for a bit of a whirlwind of activity when the Knight of Wands rides into town! Hope that doesn't put you off reading any further!

The reason that I am a bit nervous of writing about this however is that my beliefs on the matter can often make those who I am reading for feel a bit uncomfortable when I explain them. They feel there is a conflict, when in fact there isn't - it's just about appropriate respect.

For me the tarot is a spiritual belief. It may not be one of the most prominent and revered religions in the world but for those of us who belief in the universal powers and energies behind the tarot and the psychic realm, it is a beautiful and sacred matter. It is something that deserves our humility as well as our wonder.

Unlike many religions, the tarot and psychic realm don't really come with any strict rules. And yet there are some generally agreed concepts that bind readers and those with a gift. Generally I find that we believe in karma in various different guises and names. We believe that energy is powerful and should be used for good. Hate will come back to destroy you, love comes back to bring you happiness.

In other words, we believe in the power of the good in us all and realise that it's not to be toyed with.

So it is with some apprehension I wanted to raise the subject of reading on other people; someone not present at the reading. If you yourself are a reader than I would be very interested to hear your views. I can feel extremely uncomfortable when faced with someone wanting to know the details of another - usually wanting to know about their thoughts or feelings.

This is of course a natural curiosity and never more so when you are in love with someone but they have distanced themself from you. There is a lot of confusion that you need to work through and trying to get to the bottom of how this person can be part of your healing.

However, the issue for me is one of privacy. Where are the boundaries in a reading when someone asks to look at the personal thoughts of someone not willingly taking part? For me, I will often take a look at general energies around them - explaining along the way of course that I would really need to read for them personally to gain real insight. But I also will be upfront about what I feel are moral issues.

If someone has not given permission to give information away about themselves, what right do we have to pry? Of course, if the querant wishes to know whether this person still cares about them or would be prepared to talk or even if they are thinking of returning then I feel that this is reasonable as it is something that concerns them directly. But when it comes to trying to look at what they are doing, who might be with them, what depth of feeling they might have, what actions they will take - I explain my reservations.

I mentioned karma above and this is something that I do constantly check myself for when reading to make sure that I do not get carried away. I feel this keenly when reading for someone who is having an affair with a married man or woman. Now I must stress here that it is not my place to judge and I NEVER do. This is not my point. We are complex beings and have myriad reasons for doing what we do. So this is not the issue. But I do need to put my foot down on someone asking to look at what is happening in someone else's marriage (or relationship). I just feel that this is crossing a line and the universal wisdom that I am chanelling seems to pull me back from this. Does anyone else have the same experience? It's almost something that speaks to me, tells me that this is not right.

So this is often an awkward moment for me when reading. I would hate to make anyone feel judged at all and equally hate to leave anyone feeling they hadn't gained the insight that they hoped for. At the risk of trivialising the matter, to quote from Spiderman (!), "with great power comes great responsibility" and this is very true of the universal spirit. It is not just something we can pick up when we feel we need to know more and can't access it. It's a power to be humbled by. We must never lose sight of what's right and wrong before it.

Fate and Free Will

I haven't posted in a long while because I have been incredible busy - mostly good! But I had the most fascinating conversation with someone that I was reading for the other day and felt compelled to write a blog post about it. If you have ever felt the concept of fate, destiny and your free will confusing, I hope this helps you!

To be honest, it's something that I have long struggled with when it comes to finding the right way of explaining. Many people come to me for a reading with preconceived ideas of what a psychic and tarot reader will do for them and I like to be upfront about this so that they can walk away with the best experience possible. Ultimately, I find the way in which a tarot reading actually works to be the greatest possible guidance anyway.

So what do I mean by this? Well, a lot of people come with set questions and queries about what precisely will happen in their lives. They are in a predicament and getting some warning of what's to come is a comfort. I can totally understand that.

However, the problem with this is that fate is considerably more flexible than this - which is a gift to us rather than a hindrance. What tarot readers and psychics pick up on isn't really like watching a film of your life. It isn't playing out in front of us, with every part of it preordained and exactly the same whichever way you look at it or every time you decide to 'play' it. Basically, looking into your future is not like watching a DVD of your life. For this reason, it isn't possible for readers to tell you precisely what someone will say, what actions someone will take or what choices someone will make.

What affects all of the above things is free will. The cards will pick up on the important factors and will help you to see what options are available to you, to give you some idea of how to get everything working for you again. This may be in helping you understand where someone else is coming from. It may be helping you to see where the weaknesses are in your approach. It's helping you to see that you are not restricted to one path - powerless to do anything but follow it regardless of what's good for you. This actually empowers you, gives you the gift of choice and allows you to be the best version of yourself that you can be.

So basically, it's allowing you to write the end of your own film!

I personally find this a great comfort. To know that I am not destined to accept my lot in life. If it's bad, I don't have to accept it. If I am in a situation that is making me unhappy, the cards can show me the way out. It's not always easy to hear, but tarot always has your best interests at 'heart'.

So don't be disappointed if a reader cannot tell you exactly what is going to happen. If this were the case, you would be as stuck with a negative answer as much as you would a good one. Choice is freedom - embace it!

The meaning of each tarot card - The 10 of Wands

The 10 of Wands tarot card isn't one of those that will cheer you too much to see it. It shows back-breaking work and struggles to progress. Life isn't showing to be getting too much easier when you see this card.

However, I don't see there being anything too negative about the 10 of Wands at all. Yes, it's true that you're problems aren't going to disappear overnight and that's a shame! But this card shows that you will get there, that you won't be suffering and getting nowhere forever. So it's a card of encouragement really. It's to show you that if you persevere, keep trying to do what you feel is right, then you will see your dreams come true, or just see the end of a rotton phase.

So take heart, don't be down if you see this card come up. It can show that you are in a fixed position because you dare not act, that you know that you have a lot to achieve but are intimidated and rooted to the spot.

So when you see the 9 of Wands, it's time to think about whether you are standing firm for the right reasons.

(If you are looking for a tarot deck that conjurs up a combined feeling of history and magic then you will love the Arthurian Tarot)

Tarot Reading of the Day

Today I was asked if I could draw a positive card for the querant. At first glance, they might seem like quite contradictory but it's more to do with putting on a last spurt to bring everything together. You've likely been working away at a few things in your life and at this time feeling that it's all over the place still, and proving hard to organise. In other words, success seems elusive! So this card urges you to push forwards that bit more. You will soon reap the benefits and see everything start to fall into place.

(Have you always seen yourself as a deep and meaningful person? The card often depicts someone in a fighting stance and it looks an aggressive image. Well, it's true that you need to be tough and firm, that's for sure. But it's not all bad! This card also shows real advancements in your life, the fulfillment of your goals. You will also start to feel that you're coming into your own when you see this card. It's your time and you shouldn't be afraid to be assertive and stand your ground. It's time you got what you deserve.

There are times when this card can indicate some tough opposition though. So this is another reason why knowing what you want and going for it will serve you well!

(Do you feel you are a dark and mysterious person? It's certainly true that you are not in for the easiest time of it. But this card isn't as negative as it at first appears. Sometimes a bit of a fight is good for us. It shows us what we are truly made of and strengthens us. Also, if these fights show around a relationship, it's not always a bad thing to have a moment of honesty. As long as you don't let tempers get too out of control, a good old row can really clear the air!

So don't panic if you see the 5 of wands. Yes, it's going to be hard work. Yes, there there could be friction. I always smile when I see it come up in readings as it is almost endlessly positive. It can mean love, marriage, unity, togetherness, children or that your hard work is about to come to fruition. See what I mean? It's a good one! This card very often shows up for new love when I'm reading for someone single. It will often refer to a summer event but you will need to keep an eye out for your own signs with this card. But no doubt about it, it'll be a sign that you want to see!

(If you like the Rider Waite deck and find it easy to interpret you may like to try to Mystic Dreamer tarot cards. When you see this card, it's time to start rolling your sleeves up and getting on with making it happen. I like to think of the 3 of wands as a bit of a reminder card. But you also need to start actively seeking success out.

So whether it's love, career, business ideas or family matters - whatever you dream of. It is telling you that if you are prepared to work hard, act wisely and be patient, you will see the success you dream of. Another way of summing up this card is 'From Might Oaks from Little Acorns Grow'. So whatever it is you want, however small you may think your idea is, or however far you imagine you've got to go, this card tells you it can be done.

So get cracking!

If you are just starting out with tarot reading, you may want to try the Quick and Easy Tarot set, which gives a simple but solid understanding and is an excellent stepping stone to more.

The Meaning of each tarot card - The Ace of Wands

Change is afoot when you see the tarot card, the ace of wands. But never fear, it's all looking good. This is a card to show new projects, exciting opportunities and creativity around you. These are powerful and strong energies and to waste them would be almost criminal so don't hold back and certainly don't let a lack of faith in your abilities get in the way.

There is also something very intuitive about the ace of wands, I like to be led by my heart when I see this card. You'll probably realise that it's been telling you something important for quite a while now.

If you are looking for a set of tarot cards that helps you work intuitively, I can recommend the Cosmic Deck of Initiation - it is a circular deck, encouraging a deep connection with your inner psychic energies.

The Meaning of each tarot card - The World

The World tarot card is number 21 and the last of the major arcana cards. If you don't, you may miss out on the opportunities that this card shows to be right in front of you.

(I can recommend the Angel Tarot by Nikita Arnett for beginners and those wanting for further psychic inspiration.)

The Meaning of each tarot card - The Sun

The Sun tarot card is number 19 in the tarot deck. I associate it with some very deep and mysterious fears so in order to find out the root cause of them, you're likely to have to go quite far back. They are also fears that won't always link to the actual problem so you're going to need to really soul search. But when you hit upon the problem, there'll be no looking back.

This card, linked with the above interpretation, can also indicate that imaginative thinking is needed. So in other words, think out of the box when the Moon shows. A little extra effort now is going to set you on a whole new path.

(For the perfect set for the beginner tarot reader, I recommend the Angel Tarot by Nikita Arnett. It brings signs of growth and a fresh possible start in your life, so it can also mean healing if you've been through difficult times. There is also encouragement in this card for you to reach beyond what you think you are capable of and to focus on fulfilling your dreams once again. Everything and anything is possible with the Star.

There is another side to this card in that it can let you know that you need protection in your life. It may be emotional or spiritual so seek out the company of people you trust until you are strong enough to fight off negative influences.

(If you are starting to read the tarot, I can recommend the Original Rider Waite Tarot Deck for its ease of use and simplicity.)

The meaning of each tarot card - The Tower

The Tower card of the tarot is card number 16, and there's no denying it's not always good news. It speaks of turmoil and of negative upheaval, it shows emotions getting out of control and lives being turned upside down. If you see this card, consider the choices and actions you are taking in your life at this time VERY seriously. It could be that you are heading into disaster and need to reconsider. In this sense, I find the Tower card to be immensely helpful! If you can find the courage to make immediate changes in your life, you can avert dark and difficult times.

But there is another positive side to this feared card in that it shows that after upheaval can come a fresh start. There is nothing permanent about your situation, you will not remain in troubled times forever. Pick yourself up, dust yourself off, and start all over again!

The meaning of each tarot card - The Devil

The Devil tarot card is number 15 and understandably, tends to scare people a little. However, there is nothing to worry about with this card, but there is lots to think over. This is a card of insecurities, holding back feelings and letting outside influences control your feelings. So you are being urged to dig deep, to work out the problem and to start to reach out again. Think carefully on whether you are letting your actions be dictated by fear and anxiety and whether this is helping in the long term.

The Devil may also showing you that you have been holding onto something for too long. It is a very positive card however and shows you that this is more than possible if you are able to lead the way in a rational and mature manner.

(I recommend the Original Rider Waite Tarot Deck for beginners, or those looking to start reading professionally.)

The meaning of each tarot card - Death

The Death tarot card is number 13 - but nevertheless is not unlucky for some! This card still manages to worry people but it really can be positive so don't be alarmed! It means that changes are coming and also that changes are very much needed. This card also asks you to think about your past and whether or not you are repeating mistakes in your life, time and time again. If you are, it's time to cleanse your emotions, work through your experiences and move on afresh.

So if you see this card, it's time to move on. Life has to progress and you must let go and ride with the flow. The symbolism on this card is actually quite straight forward in many ways. This is showing you that now is the time to see things from another point of view! So it could be just generally, it could mean seeing the world from the viewpoint of another person. But it can be surprisingly refreshing to see a situation through a fresh pair of eyes so I feel there is a lot of wisdom in this card.

The hanged man is also a card of dedication to what you want so there are to be no short cuts here. You should actively try to take time out to try and see how it all looks to you when you're not so narrowly focused.

(I fully recommend the Original Rider Waite Tarot Deck if you are looking to begin reading tarot cards.)

The meaning of each tarot card - Justice

Tarot card number 11 is the Justice card. There is a nobility about this card, an air of righteousness. It indicates that you need to seek out all the facts about your current situation and your assessment of what you find MUST be impartial. Don't let favour your own point of view.

If you are going through a time of injustice such as bullying or harassment then this card brings cause to breath a sigh of relief. It isn't going to be easy, but you will be able to successfully overcome these problems and leave them behind you. Similarly, if you are going through a court case or even just an ongoing argument with someone, this card shows you that a resolution is on its way.

(If you are looking for your first tarot deck, I can fully recommend the Original Rider Waite Tarot Deck for its straight-forward and easy to interpret depictions.)

If you're going to be anything, please be nice!

I was a bit upset yesterday. I know I shouldn't have been, but somehow I couldn't fight the feelings off. The reason for this was actually someone I started to do a tarot reading (via text so was faceless) for and after my first message to her, she replied "f**k off"!

At first I was quite confused. I reread what I'd sent her and could see nothing negative about it at all. It's possible that she hadn't been able to place what I'd said within her life but to be honest, this happens quite a lot and it doesn't usually take more than a few minutes to find the source of the energies.

But no - I was subjected to an unjustified and horrible comment. Which, once I'm out of this slightly stressful period of my life I will see the funny side of I'm sure :) However, I did just want to say something about it. We live in an increasingly rude and disrespectful society where insults and self-aggrandising has taken the place of kindness and humility. The more anonymous the encounter, the more people feel licensed to needlessly abuse.

From the point of view of energies, it is a more serious matter. The energies we send out into the world are what we receive back. So for everyone projecting anger and hatred out into the world, they are getting this sent back to them and it only serves to increase their unhappiness. Surely we can aim for more than this?

So, to everyone, spread a little happiness and be nice to someone today.

Thank you :)

The meaning of each tarot card - The Wheel of Fortune

Tarot card number 10 is the Wheel of Fortune - and who doesn't jump for joy when they see this card! It is as positive as it sounds and speaks of good fortune coming your way, enjoying a stroke of luck or seeing a difficult situation turn full circle and go back to being good again. So it is always a delight when this lovely card shows in a reading. If you are in a situation where you feel everything needs to change, that a total overhaul of your life is needed, then this is the card to hope to see. It will tell you that the time is right and that you should waste no time in getting these changes up and running.

(If you want an easy to interpret tarot deck, I recommend the most popular tarot deck - The Original Rider Waite Tarot Deck. )

The meaning of each tarot card - The Hermit

The Hermit card, card number 9 in the tarot set, is a mysterious card at first glance. It has a feel of inner thought and isolation, of the path to self discovery. And indeed, it can mean just that. However, this card also can mean seeking advice from others, particularly someone you feel understands the situation well. What is important with the Hermit card is that you should take a step back and think over your approach. Are you seeing things are they really are? Are you acting on past experiences, good or bad? Do you think emotions are driving your actions when they shouldn't?

Important questions and ones that it does you no harm to ask yourself when you see this card. Ultimately, there is hope. The light of the hermit's lamp lights the way forwards and guides you safely onwards.

(If you are a beginner tarot reader, I fully recommend the Original Rider Waite Tarot Deck for it's simplicity and readability.)

The meaning of each tarot card - Strength

For card number 8, we have Strength. I find this to be a very encouraging card that reassures you that whatever you are going through, you have what it takes to come through. It helps you to see that you have resolve and dignity. It shows you that you will not crumble under the pressure. It shows you can turn your feelings around to those of optimism and hope. So if you are going through a traumatic time, this card should be a relief.

However, there is another side to this card. If you are starting a new relationship or your question is around love matters, this card can indicate very strong feelings are building or still evident. While both interpretations are positive, it is this second one that may be better received in the short term!

(For beginners starting to read tarot cards, I can recommend the Original Rider Waite tarot deck. If you look at this strong image, you will see that the chariot is being pulled along by two sphinxes, 1 black and 1 white. There are choices around this card, if you see this card in a reading you are likely to feel yourself being pulled on two different directions. But there is more to it than that! This card is also one of confidence and faith in yourself. In striving to have this inner belief, you will find you consequently find it easier to navigate yourself through life's more troublesome choices.

So whatever problems or dilemmas you are facing, this card shows you that you need to prevent doubts and emotions from overwhelming you. The path forwards will then become all the more clear to you.

(For an excellent tarot set for beginners, or those looking for an easy to interpret deck I recommend the most popular - The Original Rider Waite tarot deck)

The meaning of each tarot card - The Lovers

The Lovers card is number 6 in the tarot deck. And who doesn't want to see this card come up in their reading?! It does in fact represent love, attraction, affection and a deep bond. It can show you that someone new is coming into your life or that an existing relationship will see improvements. But it does not always relate to matters of the heart so this is very much a card that you need to look at in context of the surrounding cards.

You may need to look at upcoming commitments in general and look to see whether you are dedicating yourself as you should be. I also find this card comes up when you are too focused on a small aspect of your life, or a small handful of people, and that it's time to open things up a little more.

But overall, this is a card of harmony, of using your instincts and enjoying the beautiful things in life. So for most, it's a sight for sore eyes every time.

(If you want a card pack for beginners, or a reliable deck that is easy to interpret, you cannot go wrong with the Original Rider Waite Tarot Deck.)

Today's Tarot Reading

I have done a tarot reading this morning for a very lovely lady who is a regular of mine and going through a very long, and very trying access agreement with her ex husband over their daughter. This is of course extremely draining for her and it doesn't seem as if her ex partner is acting in a particularly sensible or reliable way.

The reason that I wanted to highlight her reading today is because she really seemed to fight the cards. I understand why. She is sick and tired of fighting against her ex and is not feeling as strong as she'd like to. She asked the cards for some guidance on what his actions meant and what she should do about them and it brought a lot of difficult feelings and emotions up for her. Consequently, she started to argue against the advice when in fact what she wanted to do is argue against her ex, to let all her frustrations out.

Again, I completely understand and I welcome people asking questions and getting as much as possible out of the reading. But it is always worth asking yourself what is really going on if you feel so frustrated by what the cards are showing you. Is it the cards you want to take issue with? Or should you really be saying this to someone in your life?

The meaning of each tarot card - The Hierophant

The Hierophant card of the tarot deck is number 5 and also known as the Pope. This is a card of traditions and rules and so it could well be warning you that now is not to time to be rebellious. You want to seek out the tried and tested, find wisdom in its purest form. This card is strongly linked, therefore, to all types of education. It could be formal education in that you need to train to advance in life, it may be that you need to try and understand your situation better or it may be that you need to try and look to those around you and accept that you don't always know best.

There is also a romantic side to this card and depending on the other cards and the life situation that you are in, it can be a strong indicator of marriage and family coming up or being of particular importance at this time.

Whatever you do and whatever your predicament, when you see this card it is probably time to be a little reflective in your thoughts and to look deep at whether you are embracing knowledge as you should.

(For an easy tarot deck for beginners, try the Original Rider Waite Tarot Deck)

The meaning of each tarot card - The Emperor

Tarot card number 4 in the deck is the grand Emperor. This is a wonderful card that speaks of the power of wisdom and experience gained through patience. When you see this card come up in your tarot readings, it's time to consider whether you are rushing the matter or if you are not doing enough to make things happen for yourself. For me personally, I see it as my cue to break the situation down, to consider how I can overcome the problem by taking it one step at a time and making it less overwhelming.

The main reason that this card can be unpopular in readings is that it's a little anti-emotions. Nothing wrong with following your feelings of course, but with the Emperor, it's all about the thinking! It can be tough to do but your rewards will be a clear head and, to the others involved, an appearance of calm and dignity.

So when this card comes up, slow down and have a good old think about the whole situation and the way you are dealing with things. Don't forget, the tortoise beat the hare to the finish!

The meaning of each tarot card - The Empress

The Empress card, card number 3 in the tarot deck, is one of contentment, abundance, family and love. When you see this card then it is time to look at your priorities and to think over whether you are putting all of your efforts where they truly count. If you are going through time of instability or uncertainty with your home life, then this card brings you news of some calmer times coming.

However, this card is not passive in nature. It is always worth it to have a think on your goals in life, even if they are not career orientated. This card shows that you may need to reassess and to find the energy and drive to keep giving things your all. You will see the happiness you want.

(For beginners, or just those who are looking for the easiest tarot card set to interpret, I recommend the Original Rider Waite Tarot Deck.)

The meaning of each tarot card - The High Priestess

The High Priestess card is number 2 in the tarot deck. It is a wonderful card of mystery, hidden depths and intrigue. When this card shows for you then you can expect to find that there is more to the situation than you thought! It is also a card of psychic abilities and instinct is strong around you at this time. If your senses are telling you something, then it is imperative that you listen to them.

If you are feeling confused about your life and this card comes up, it is perfectly natural to want to dig deeper to find out what these secrets are. You may want to probe the people around you, or in the case of relationship problems, push your partner to find out their true feelings. Difficult though it may be, this card also shows the need for patience. Have faith in the natural order and all will be revealed to you in time.

(For beginners or anyone looking for an easy to read tarot set, you can't beat the traditional Rider Waite Tarot Deck)

The meaning of each tarot card - The Magician

The second card in the tarot deck is actually card number 1 (The Fool card is considered 0) - The Magician. This is a card of action and your own internal strength & power so if this card shows then you know it’s time to get off your backside! Think of the symbolism of the magician or the conjuror - bringing things to life, creating something out of nothing, being master of his universe. The symbolism is all about creativity and confidence in one’s abilities.

However, the magician also knows how to bide his time and wait for the right moment. Behind the scenes, he works away to perfect his craft so that he is ready to act, but this is not necessarily a card of immediate results. So learn from the discipline of the Magician card also.

So when the Magician card shows for you, depending on its position of course, it’s time to consider whether you are giving the situation your all and to look to ways to build in strength and wisdom.

(For a beginner, or for a simple to read tarot deck, you cannot be the traditional Rider Waite Tarot Deck)

Today's Tarot Card Reading

I did a reading for a lovely lady earlier on today and have been feeling really uplifted ever since! What is surprising about this is that she had actually had a pretty rotten time of it with regards to love. But her attitude, strength and character shone through and she was ready to act on the guidance of the cards with relish.

I had actually read for her a couple of months ago now and she didn't have anyone in her life then. We could see someone showing for her but there was need to take it slowly. I found out why this morning! He was unhappily married and had been drawn to my client for her vivacious and lively energy. Despite herself she'd fallen for him and he for her. But of course, there were complications and he just couldn't find the courage to give himself to her fully - to leave his wife.

This is a heartbreaking situation that is sadly all too common. But what the cards showed this warm and loving woman this morning was that she was to recognise once again that she was lovable. When I'd met her before she was beginning to doubt she would ever meet anyone and she felt invisible to men.

For many, a failed relationship, however brief, is a real knock to the confidence. This woman showed me the true meaning of live and learn! The cards showed her to be on a path towards love and this was enough for her - she was ready to move on and have faith and grab every chance.

The meaning of each tarot card - The Fool

I’ve been meaning to write a basic guide to tarot card meanings but haven’t found the time. However, today is the day and there couldn’t be a more relevant card to get started with than the fool card - the beginning of the tarot deck and the symbol of new beginnings. I’m always really cheered and intrigued in equal measure when I see this card come up in a reading as I know that whatever the querant has been through of late, change is on its way.

Life is full of twists and turns; a fact we can’t do anything about. And while sadly some change is negative and brings hardship with it, there are other times when it’s just what you need. Many of us are nervous about change, associating it with the times when we’ve been hurt or damaged. There is also the element of the unknown or having to let go of what is not working for you (despite your best efforts).

The Fool card tells you to embrace this new path with the pure joy and excitement of a child. Not easy, I know! But life is about to bring better opportunities and the chance to start afresh. Hold your head up high, put the spring back in your step and don’t fight against the tide. Very soon, you’ll have a smile back on your face.

(For beginners or just for an easy to understand tarot pack, you can't beat the traditional Rider Waite Tarot Deck)

How Important Is Your Question In a Tarot Reading?

The answer to this is...it can be very important but it doesn't have to be!! Confused? It's actually all down to perception and expectations. So what I mean by this is, if you narrow your focus when asking your questions of the tarot, you may also be narrowing how you interpret the answers that come back. And this would be a shame.

My first example of this would be the difference between asking the tarot does John have strong feelings for me? versus Does John think of me when I'm not around? In the first question you have a wider range and if you ask this with an open mind you will not only get interesting insights but also you will get guidance on what your next steps should be. If you ask the second question you will be focusing on the one aspect. Meanwhile the cards will still continue to be looking at the bigger picture! This leads to problems as you may be too inclined to hear what you want to hear.

My second example would be asking questions that seek to get a yes or a no answer. I looked more closely at this in my last post, but I would advise against this as the tarot is so much more exploratory than just affirmatives and negatives. Allow the tarot to open your eyes!

My last example would be to be flexible with timescales, don't fence yourself in. When you are feeling vulnerable or low, it can be easy to want a resolution to your problems as soon as possible. But you must remember that free will is always critical. Actions can change or adjust outcomes. So if you are too dependant on the timescale that's showing in the cards, you may become despondant unneccessarily. Ask instead about, say, important events over the next 6 months or possibilities around certain events.

So essentially, don't try to control your reading too much. Go with the flow and you will actually get a very accurate insight into your situation. I started off by saying that the question is important but does'nt have to be and what this means is, at the end of the day there are no right or wrong question. You will always be given the divine wisdom of the tarot cards however you phrase what you need to know. But just try to be as open as you can be.

Yes or No? This is a question I get asked almost daily, but regrettably is one that I am not able to answer. If you have read my post What is Fate?, then you will know a little about the way in which destiny is an ever changing aspect of our lives. So while I would dearly love to give reassuring guarantees of what is to come about, I would be failing in my duties as a tarot reader to do so.

What the cards will show you are your choices, they will guide you through what you need to recognise and address in order to turn the situation around. So it can be helpful to phrase your question more along the lines of scenarios - ‘what can happen if I decide to call him, what are the issues?’

There are times when strong signs of outcomes come through the cards but mostly, we’re looking together at actions you haven’t yet taken. The tarot is showing you that you still have many options open to you.

So, instead of a yes or no, the cards will show you what are potentially positive and negative actions. If he has told you that he wants space, calling him every day would likely show to be a negative action for you. It is showing you that you may obstruct what otherwise is a path still open. And affirmative action may be you calling him in order to be the first one to come forward after a misunderstanding.

I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again - life is confusing! And to make matters worse, our emotions don’t always lead us to do the right things. If you can be more open in your questions and prepared to adjust your behaviour, the tarot will help you to declutter your mind and clear the way forwards.

<link rel='alternate' type='text/html' href='http://theothersideofthedeck.blogspot.com/2010/02/yes-or-no-its-more-about-affirmative.html' title='Yes or No? I thought it was worth including here also as it is a very important part of all psychic and mystic matters and central to our beliefs. It can be a little confusing at first but I actually feel it is incredibly liberating and enriches our lives when we come to understand it.

What Is Fate?
The concept of fate is potentially thousands of years old. It was discussed by the ancient Chinese civilisations and Nordic traditions also, both of which are huge influences on current thinking. To say the word ‘fate’ or ‘destiny’ to many conjures up the idea of something static, fixed and unchanging, that it contains a map your life’s path.

However, fate has always been believed to be something that flows and changes in line with your actions, your circumstances and the choices you make as well as the people you meet and opportunities that arise. We are not puppets on strings, being controlled by the higher powers, but rather masters of our own destinies to a very large degree. We have free will.

Core areas of our lives and events may be shown by psychic energies. It is then up to us to make wise decisions based on this information.

Why Have a Tarot Reading?
Using psychic energies, the tarot cards will show you these events and also possible events coming up or those that are around you now. They can also help you with guidance on how to deal with them. For example, the cards may show an upcoming romantic connection with someone that you may be very drawn to but that there are reasons to be cautious. They can help to prepare you to look out for danger signs or to turn the situation around to your benefit.

What they can’t do is carry out these decisions and actions for you. If the cards show a potential love connection coming up around a social event, but you decide not to go, the tarot cannot make this happen for you! So you can see how you play a central role.

Psychic energies and tarot cards also bring the wisdom of the universe to you and the reason this can be so invaluable is because as human beings we are flawed. We are emotional creatures and they have a powerful hold over us. We can get ourselves into some very tricky situations! There are times when the truth is too much to bear and the tarot will sooth you because it gives you alternatives. A relationship may be going through a difficult patch and the tarot can help you to see where your behaviour is contributing to the problems and what you can do to change and get everything back on track.

What Outcomes Can I See In the Tarot?
Because fate is so flexible, in consulting the tarot you can explore different outcomes around different actions. What can happen if I call him? What can happen if I don’t call him? What will happen if I step back and give this time? It provides a wealth of information that we can take away and think about, even using our own instincts to help us determine the best way of moving forwards.

What I feel I must add, as I see this all too often, is that fate, the tarot cards and psychic energies cannot merely provide you with what you want to hear. What we want to see in our futures may not be what is right for us. I see many people in desperate situations such as unhappy marriages and relationships. They are being treated badly and want nothing more than the person they love to change. If the cards shows this will not happen, this may be one of your life’s core events. Sometimes, your actions will simply not be enough to change the other person.

It is at this point that you have to realise that fate is going to remain static and until you can find the strength to admit this to yourself then you will remain unhappy. Accept that fate would not match you with someone who would leave you permanently unhappy. Don’t feel that the cards are against you, they will always be acting in your interests.

Today's Tarot Reading

This morning I did a tarot reading for a lovely, spirited woman but I have to confess I am feeling a little drained now! This is absolutely not her fault but just a consequence of the level of high emotions around her - she is going through such a difficult time. But I what came through for her was that there are lessons to be learned from her experiences and certainly one that the cards showed she was intelligent and savvy enough to learn for herself when the time is right.

It was a love reading and her partner had returned to his ex and child leaving her feeling unloved and used. This is a natural and normal reaction and my heart went out to her. She also had stored up a lot of anger and most of this she directed at the ex partner who, let’s just say, hadn’t exactly been kind to her. A horrible situation and one that affected my client deeply.

However, during the reading it was clear that she was reaching for something that wasn’t necessarily in her best interests. Firstly wanted to make sense of it all, to find the meaning. The cards were showing her that in fact there was no true meaning, there was no great plan behind this. It was a set of events that came together to cause hurt and suffering to all involved. To try to search for answers beyond that was eating away at her.

It is so hard to let go before we are ready and all too often we’re left with a feeling of complete powerlessness. This works away at our confidence and will grind us down if we let it. The lesson the cards were showing my client is that she felt the injured party and the fool now. But time brings change and that she would eventually realise that she would feel both stronger for having come through and lucky for being well out of it all!

Something that is a lesson for all of us in any given situation. In the meantime, be strong and kind to yourself!

L&L
Elizabeth

Thinking of a New Year Tarot Reading?

I mentioned yesterday that I was very busy at the moment because of New Year tarot readings and it looks like this is going to be the case right up until the last week of January. Very exciting stuff! You may be wondering why New Year is such a good time for readings given that the cards offer insight at ANY time of the year and in fact week, day or hour. Good question and I’d be happy to answer it for you!

For me it’s all about energies. I am a big believer in tarot readings being a joint affair - the energies of the reader, the querant and the cards all coming together. It doesn’t matter whether a question has been asked or not, the more participation in terms of enthusiasm and focus that everyone puts in, the better the reading will be.

At this time of year, everyone has so much on their minds. There are concerns and worries, confusion, hopes and dreams. These are all there at any time of the year of course but at New Year it always seems as if a spotlight has been shone on people’s lives - Where am I going? Am I doing the right thing? Is it going to work? There is such a willingness for change it really makes tarot readings at this time year a joy.

So if you are struggling to get your head around what has happened in 2009 and hoping for a more productive/prosperous/happier/romantic 2010 then think about a reading, even if it’s just a quickie. Don’t let these feelings fester or build, use the tarot to get your head straight!

Major Arcana

Hello, Happy New Year and I hope you had a great Christmas! I’ve been rushed off my feet with all the New Year readings and I have to say I have a GREAT feeling about this year - I’m really buoyed up!!

I wanted to kick off 2010 with a few words on the major arcana cards as I have seen a much higher incidence of them in my readings of the last week due to this being a time of change, emotional ups and downs and new beginnings.

Major Arcana
There are no real hard and fast rules to the tarot but it is generally accepted that the major arcana cards are the big ones, the heavy weights of the pack (click here to see a list of what the cards are). The first thing I do when I lay out a spread is take a quick look to see the what major arcana cards feature and where they are placed as it will often feed me the ‘mood’ of the reading. They’re fundamentally important!

What are Major Arcana cards?
A tarot pack will have 2 main types of cards - the major and minor arcana. The minors are the 4 suits of cups, swords, wands and pentacles and show more every day concerns.

The major arcana stand alone and are depictions of scenes and people. They are more symbolic and their presence in a reading will show you that significant changes will occur, or special attention should be given to this aspect of the querant’s life.
How to Read the Major Arcana
This all depends on what tarot spread you are using and what position the card falls in. For example, using the Celtic Cross spread, position 4 will show you what has occurred in the very recent past and indicates what has led them to the position they are in now.

So if the Judgement card is drawn here, we can see that decisions and hopes to improve his or her life have been influential. Because this is a major arcana card, we will be aware that the past needs particular focus, recommending ways to come to terms with it or turn it around.

If you read for yourself or are just starting out, it can be really helpful to pay particular attention to these cards when you lay out any spread. Tarot readings are very complex beasts! Simplifying the process by concentrating on the majors can be very enlightening as it will help you to tune into the major themes before you get overly confused by all of the other messages. As you develop your expertise, you will start to be able to cope with more layered interpretations, but most likely you’ll never drop the habit of honing straight in on these principal keynotes!

Tarot Reading as Counselling

I saw this the other day and I thought it was a very insightful description of a tarot reading - I especially liked the bit about the tarot being like a wise friend. How did that make you feel? No doubt it made you feel flat and a bit let down - and this would be the natural response. There is nothing like the thrill of an energising connection with a reader to make you feel good about your future and nothing like the lack of one to bring you down with a bump.

However, don’t feel powerless as all is not lost. There are actually ways to rev up a reading! You are after all, half of the people involved and even better, in terms of subject matter, it’s all about you! So don’t underestimate how you can contribute. Here’s a few pointers to help:

Ask questions. If you feel the reader is heading in the wrong direction, it may be that s/he is actually picking up on the right energies but has not quite got a handle on the area that it relates to. This can happen. Now is not the time for you to jump in and tell them everything however! Confirm if you feel something is relevant and ask questions to help focus the direction, to take it to what you are interested in investigating

If you having a general reading, be genuinely open. It is most often best not to opt for this in the hope that you get a reading relevant to your relationship as this can lead to disappointment. Again - it’s your reading! If you want to know about your relationship, simply ask :)

If you have a specific question, make sure you are focused on this when you ask. No need to tell your reader the details of what you are concentrating on, just do it to build up the energies between you. Your dedication will be appreciated and even worked with by your reader.

Strike up a general, albeit brief conversation. You are paying to have a reading and will not want to take up the time having a chit chat about what was on TV last night. That said, by being warm and friendly with one another, even if it’s not face to face, opens up channels and information is usually shaper for it.

If you put these simple tricks into play, you will not only cut down on feeling disappointment from the occasional slow tarot reading but in fact find that you can get even more out of the already good ones!

L&L Elizabeth xxx

Experiencing Symptoms of Psychic Ability

Many years before I did tarot readings I had experienced symptoms of psychic ability. This made me question who I was and what I was put here to do, but also scared me at times. It is a big responsibility and something you must learn to use wisely as you mature. The reason I bring it up here is because there is of course a big crossover between being psychic and reading the tarot. For those starting up now, some of you may have experienced symptoms of psychic ability yourself, and some may start to open this up in yourself as you progress. Neither is any more powerful than the other but you may find some slight differences in how this manifests in you.

General Symptoms of Psychic Ability
1) Psychic dreams. You possibly would have experienced these from an early age. They are not something you can control but can often bring you important messages.
2) Sensing when someone is going to call you, even when you haven’t heard from them for a while.
3) Called clairsentience, you will be able to pick up on the thoughts and feelings of others. This is a difficult ability to have sometimes and you must learn to switch it off as it can be a burden to be so sensitive to others.
4) Having images placed in your mind, either literal images of something or symbolic ones. For example, you may be presented with the image of a road to represent a journey in someone’s life, be it travel or even an emotional journey.

Symptoms of Psychic Ability Linked to Reading the Tarot
1) Sometimes extra details, prompted by the cards will come to you. Don’t be afraid to go with this as it is often what will build trust. An example of this is when you get draw a card such as the High Priestess and sense that a female figure is highly influential. An image of a sister may suddenly come to you, so go with this as it is likely to be presented to you for a reason.
2) Moods and strong emotions will come to you and this will show you the direction of the reading. The querant may want to keep their feelings to themselves or be looking for reassurance from you first so this is a good way of letting them know that you are right their with them.
3) Symbols can be placed in my mind for certain cards but I can have several to help me see the meaning of a card in the particular reading. For example, with the moon card I can get an image of a sepia tinged image of the moon to show me fears rooted in the past. If the card is showing me doubts relating to someone else in the querant’s life I will see the moon orbiting someone, always out of reach.
4) The position of the cards in the spread you have chosen will tell you what each card relates to, for example if it is showing you where the querant is right now. However, it is not uncommon for cards to represent 1 or more events in the querant’s life and this means you have to be a little flexible in how you interpret the direction of the reading. This will often be shown by drawing me into a particular card, even sensing some heat or a buzz around it. This alerts me to a more complex situation.

I hope this gives you an idea of how to look for symptoms of psychic ability in your tarot work and outside of it.

Understanding the Meaning of Tarot Cards

Understanding the meaning of tarot cards could be more accurately described as understanding the true spirit of the tarot cards. I was talking about the need to use your intuition before and also that it is necessary to learn the basic meanings of the cards. But I’d like to discuss how the meanings of the cards can shift and adapt. At first this is likely to seem so confusing that you think you’re never going to understand it! But it is where the beauty of the tarot lies; it’s wisdom is far reaching. To root yourself only in the literal meanings that you get from books is to only experience a fraction of what you could or should.

To help make this clearer, let‘s use the example of Jane, a fictional querant. She wants a reading on her relationship and one of the cards that you have drawn for her is the tower card. Here are some of the things you should be looking for when getting a true understanding of the meanings of her tarot cards.

1) The tower card is a major arcanA card. This means this has more meaning and weight than minor aracanA cards and is going to be highly influential on surrounding cards in the spread. It is setting a tone.

2) Now consider the basic meaning of the tower card. This shows upheaval, disruption and potential heartbreak. So not always a popular card! However, it is in the next 2 points that the true art of reading comes alive.

3) Look at the position of the card. Is it representing Jane’s past or is it an outcome of a situation? If this is about her past then you need to talk to Jane about letting go or working through some issues of past hurt. If it is to do with the outcome, bearing in mind we are looking at her relationship, there are some serious issues to be addressed as a split seems possible. However, even now it is too soon to come to conclusions. Which leads to point 4...

4) Interpretation is where you find your true understanding of the meanings of the tarot cards. To find the tower card as an outcome in Jane’s relationship reading seems very negative. But this is where the cards may be offering guidance. Look at the following cards. Are they showing something more positive? It is common for the tower card to show that the current behaviour of the querant is likely to lead to heartbreak - which actually leaves room for changing, working on what needs to be done and repairing the damage. In these circumstances, far from being negative, Jane has been given guidance on how to make her relationship stronger.

So far from being set in stone, understanding the meanings of tarot cards is flexible, far reaching and above all, beautiful! This is why I consider it to be a craft, something that takes time and patience to become accomplished in. If you are prepared to persevere, this wisdom will soon start to become part of you.

More tomorrow!

Tarot Readings, Not Fairy Tales

Just wanted to share a tarot reading story with you from yesterday. I did a reading for an absolutely lovely lady that I’ve actually done a number of tarot readings for before and I find her warm, caring and engaging - in short I really like talking to her. However, I’m not always comfortable reading for her!

How come? Much as I like her, there are times when she is not after a tarot reading, she is after a fairy tale. I have to work hard to get across the true meanings of the cards to her as she prefers to interpret them her own way, seeing only what she wants. I totally understand why she’s doing this. She is vulnerable in many ways and life is not going well for her. She wants the cards to sooth her worries and show her that things are going to be ok.

She’s not alone, I am always having to remind people that the wisdom of the cards is what you should put your faith in, not your imagination. Ultimately of course, you will benefit so much more from following the divine guidance even if it shows you that you have tough decisions to make or hard work is needed. And gaining insight in order to benefit your future is the great gift that the tarot has to offer.

Learning to Read Tarot Cards

Further to yesterday’s blog on interpreting tarot cards, I’m going to take this a little wider and look at learning to read tarot cards in general. This is because there is much more to it than just what you make of the imagery on the cards.

Learning to read tarot cards will challenge you on many levels. It should bring out psychic abilities and open your mind up to the mysteries of life. But also you need to work on acceptance and tolerance if you are wanting to read for other people, to learn to be understanding but also to avoid falling into the trap of giving too much advice. Here’s a brief look at some of these points:

Psychic Abilities
You do not need to have training or experience in psychic abilities in order to read the cards, but you will find that some work on what learning the tarot cards will bring out in you is necessary. Many thoughts and images will flood into your mind as you progress and it can be a little scary at first. You will grow in confidence and will start to have the confidence to go with these messages, but it can take time to recognise them.

Life’s Mysteries
If your learning to read tarot cards, chances are you are also interested in other mystical aspects of life! Take this as far as you can. Combining your reading with astrology, or pendulum work will bring extra energy and dynamism to your reading and open up insights that you may have otherwise missed.

Acceptance of Other’s Ways
When learning to read tarot cards, you may start to come across aspects of other people’s lives that you have not yet encountered and you may be a little shocked! You have personal reasons for not liking their behaviour or choices that they have made. But it is NOT your role as a tarot reader to judge. Leave this behind and focus on what the cards are giving you.

Be Understanding But Impartial
Sometimes, the querant can be vulnerable and in a state of emotional distress. Of course you will want to show them some kindness and offer comfort if you can, and this is fine. It is part of giving them the opportunity to trust in you. Sometimes you may find that people are vulnerable when they don’t appear to be, for example if they are aggressive, but they still deserve your understanding.

What you must be careful of however, is offering your personal opinion. They have come to you for a tarot reading and are looking for the guidance that the cards are offering. Even if you have been through something similar, stick to what the cards are showing them is the right course of action. It can be hard to detach yourself at first, but in my experience the tarot cards are always right in the long run so you can put your total faith in them!

Interpreting Tarot Cards

Interpreting tarot cards can be very difficult for the beginner. The artwork on the cards looks almost designed to confuse you! It also doesn’t help that most experienced readers will tell you that personal meaning is as important as the standard meanings. But interpreting tarot cards is an art and not something you should hope to master in one day. It takes time and it takes dedication and it takes faith. However, in order to try to make it easier for you if you are just starting out, here are some suggestions:

1) The obvious one first. Start with a good book and do readings for yourself or close friends and family with the book to hand. You may not be able to go as quickly as you think you should and it will also hinder your ability to see how the cards fit together but on the plus side, it will get you familiarised with the cards.

2) Do some readings for yourself and keep notes of what comes up. This way you’ll be able to see how accurate you are becoming at interpreting the tarot cards and also you may pick up on some common associations. This will mean you are forming a personal attachment to the tarot and developing special signs that will mean certain events or happenings to you. For example, certain cards may often represent someone older.

3) It is important however that you do learn to piece together readings and look at how the cards are relating to one another. Otherwise it will simply be a lot of random and disparate events! And this doesn’t reflect life, ergo it isn’t the best way to go about interpreting tarot cards which after all, all about life! This is quite a complex area and I will cover this in more depth another time. But look for a lot of major arcana cards to signify significant events coming up, or a high number of a particular suit. A high number of cups will mean emotional matters are central.

4) Learn to trust the psychic ’voice’ that you will be channelling. This is something deep inside you, a facet of you that you may not have encountered before. At first you will not know what to do with the sudden rush of thoughts or images coming to you but this will become familiar and more manageable.

5) Interpreting tarot cards is a craft and so this is something you will always be working on. I still like to read about the experiences of others and to continue to broaden my knowledge. So don’t feel that you need to get to a certain level of expertise. Tarot reading is a life time practise.

Best of luck!

Elizabeth xx

Readings of Inner Strength

I did an absolute wonderful reading yesterday! By which I mean that I thoroughly enjoyed it and really connected with this lovely, warm young woman. It was an absolute pleasure. The reason for this was because she was someone who had frankly had more than her fair share of problems in life (and the cards hinted at much more than she was going to let on) but she had such energy, such a go-getting attitude it was clear that she was going to be ok in the end. This girl had real mettle!

And the cards that came up around this were ones of turning life around. Tarot cards such as the magician which indicates a need to start taking control, grabbing the reigns of her own life. The reason that this was such an exciting reading to do was because she was so truly open to this and deep down had an unshakeable faith that she could do it.

I so often read for people that have been through tough times and sadly have no fight left. It is so heartbreaking to see cards coming up, revealing an inner strength and capability that they just don’t realise is there. The cards show the potential but you have a saddening feeling throughout the reading that the querant is just not going to see this. And self belief is totally paramount.

So if you are feeling down or despairing and choose to go for a reading, firstly be assured that is your time and not a place where you will be judged. But don’t dismiss the cards that show you have power and strength. You may not feel like it now and it may be too early for you to start to access these abilities. But be open to them - the cards are showing you that YOU are the real key to your future.

Mind Reading Vs Tarot Reading

I was talking to a fellow tarot reader last week and she said something that I thought was really spot on. She said that she often felt it necessary to inform people when she was giving a reading that she was a tarot reader, not a mind reader! This is actually a really important distinction and is a lot more helpful to the querant than it may at first appear. So here’s how this will help you…

I will go more into detail on how the tarot cards work as I update my blog but in order to see the reason that my friend was so right it is necessary to briefly look at what the tarot cards offer. They will give you guidance and help through emotional times, look at various outcomes for different actions taken and can help you see the way forward through difficult circumstances. They are an aid to help navigate your way through the more tricky patches in life, to throw you a life line!

Tarot readers may also possess psychic skills, or be clairvoyant or clairsentient - these abilities can help them gain a more in depth look at the details of your situation. Such details may come to the reader in a flash/thought, an image or a symbol. But beware someone who claims to be able to look inside of the heads of those you are interested in, to give you specifics on timings. The cards do not work with such guarantees as free will and choices always play a part along with actions (both yours and others.)

The brilliance of the tarot falls in the divine wisdom that it gives you access to and not everything is revealed at once if it is felt you need to unfold the situation, to understand the complexities of it. To be honest, understanding this is much more likely to help you in the long run than the simple facts of what someone else is doing, thinking or feeling at that precise moment.

LnL

Elizabeth x

How Do Tarot Readings Work?

Tarot readings can be exciting, insightful, instructive and even fun. But one thing they can also often be is confusing. This is often down to a misunderstanding over how the cards work and what they can offer you. I would like to give you some tips on the process that goes into your tarot readings, how the cards are working for you and what you should expect.

1) Tarot readings are not necessarily the same as psychic readings. Many readers will of course have psychic abilities and will use these to get further information for you. But the cards themselves will not provide specifics and details of your situation. Check this out with your reader before you get started.

2) It is essential that your tarot reader be open and ready to channel energies - this much I’m sure is obvious! But it is also important that you are too. If you are feeling distracted or tired then it may not be the right time for a tarot reading and it would be better to reschedule if possible. This is because you could unknowingly be blocking the flow of the reading and will therefore not be getting the best experience.

3) Tarot readings work best when you do not feed the reader all the details of your circumstances. This is more common than you might think and stems from the fact that the querant can be keen to see a particular outcome in the cards. This is understandable but is not giving the reading the chance it deserves. So try to keep specifics to yourself until such a time as it not effecting the reading.

4) This may seem like a contradiction of the above point, but bear with me! It is also common for those having a reading to not let on anything personal, keeping all reactions and comments back. This is absolutely fine if this is your wish and it not wrong in any way. I would just like to add though, that you must be prepared to interpret the information that comes from the cards yourself. If the reader is unaware of the area of your life that the energies are coming from, they will not be able to help you make sense of it I’m afraid. So, I repeat, there is nothing wrong in holding back all information, but it does mean that the burden of understanding things falls more on you than it otherwise might.

5) Rather than focusing on the outcome of one particular scenario, use the cards to look at several paths or options that you might have. For example, if you need to make a decision on a job change, ask the cards what will happen if you get a promotion but also alternatively where the opportunities lie if you don’t. The cards will be able to guide you through all of the openings that are possible for you in your life, investigating more than one option.

I hope this has given you food for thought regarding future tarot readings. What are they doing, what are they picking up on and how are they doing it?! Obviously knowing nothing about this does not prevent you from getting a good reading. But I’ve always believed, as a tarot reader, that the querant can actually gain a better reading from understanding the process - knowing what to contribute and what to keep back. In other words, how to combine energies with your reader as well as the reading.

So in order to help you gain insight, I’ve decided to keep a blog :) I’ll be sharing and informing (I hope!) along the way, but am also more than happy to answer any questions you may have. I’ll also be posting thoughts and observations from readings that I may have done throughout the week (totally anonymously of course) in order to illustrate what can come through and the best way to use these messages.

I hope you enjoy my thoughts and ramblings and - you never know - find them enlightening!

Love and light
Elizabeth Ansell
x
